In my defense: Yesterday I did a little test run of the milk splash with a mug full of water, sitting on a kitchen towel. It made a little bloop up in the air and that was it.
Did you know that whole milk has different properties than water? Me neither. I guess it's heavier, or denser...whatever, it's splashier. And that led to the gigantic mess. Whoops!
A few of you asked for the how-to. So as not to disappoint, here is what you need to make the splash: (hard boiled of course)
Still not grasping the physical differences between whole milk and water, I tried this morning with coffee.
So that was kind of cool, but not as splashy as milk.

Oh geez! I almost forgot the most important part: my settings.
Today's settings outside were:
TV mode - 1/800
aperture 4.5
ISO 800
Yesterday's settings inside were:
TV mode - 1/400
aperture 2.8
ISO 1250 (yep, 1,250)
In my kitchen there's not much available light, and my ISO was already 1,250. I should have used a faster shutter speed and a smaller aperture (bigger number, like 4.5), but I didn't want to raise the ISO any higher.
Also, for those that asked how many times I tried the milk splash yesterday: two. You get a cool result pretty much every time, and I actually posted the pictures of my first attempt. Because of the huge mess, I moved the cup to the center of the table for the 2nd attempt, and the light wasn't as good.
Again, I'm so sorry that I can't respond to all the comments, but maybe this little how-to will make up for it, right? ♥

Annie Lebowitz once took a pic of Whoopi Goldberg in a bath tub full of milk. Milk is amazing to photograph even if it is not splashing...It is just perfect for portraits

I think the properties of milk and water are different not only in density, but also in viscosity. Whole milk is more viscous, because of all the lipids in it. Yeah?

okay I know that this is an older post but I was wondering what TV mode would be on my Sony A550 camera. I have M,S,A,P Auto. What would TV mode be on that? I want to try this... but couldn't figure out which one I would use. Thanks.
