day 299: night photography

Photobucket

f/14
SS 6 seconds
ISO 200

Photographer's tip: Did you notice the starbursts in the headlights of the cars? You have to use small aperture (large number) to achieve this. My smallest aperture on the lens I was using was f/22, so that would have be ideal. That would also result in a longer exposure, so it's a trade-off. If you used an aperture of f/2.8 for example, you would not get the starbursts. You'd just get a big spot of light. Cool, huh?

Very cool!!! Is this with your new lens? I love your photographs! They were always good, but my goodness, they are getting even better. This could very easily be a picture I saw in my magazine!

Thanks for the tip about the starbursts. I'm going to have to give it a try!

very cool!! I have to try night time photography but I'm usually in my pj's, eating ice cream and vegging out in front of the TV. Thanks for the inspiration.

the lovely starburst affect? that's how my eyes naturally see at night....(smirk, add sarcastic tone) it makes night driving really fun! (back to normal adult tone) But it is beautiful! And Christmas time is amazing with all the twinkling lights...I love seeing your photos friend!

What a great challenge, to take night shots. I think I might try that too. You used a tripod for this right? Thanks for the tip. About the above post...yes, I have had too many of those kinds of days. I am trying to break a bad habit that God called me on, and so far so good. I keep telling myself, one obedient choice at a time. Good for you, making the right choice.
