round 2 of the fauxtoshoot

Did you like that? Fauxtoshoot? Sometimes I have brief moments of cleverness.

Faux - because I will remind you that portrait photography is very difficult for me, and if I'm being honest, it's not something I enjoy. Sometimes I feel the pressure not to post pictures that are only kind of so-so. I think it's because of all your wonderful comments; I feel like I don't want to disappoint. But I need to just get over that, and record our family memories, right?

Here's a little shot behind the scenes. It's also a cry for help. Will you please leave me a comment and tell me your favorite vintage action(s)? I have Totally Rad Actions - The Revenge (several vintage-like actions there), CoffeeShop's simply vintage, the Pioneer Woman's seventies action, some vintage actions from Isabelle Lafrance, and I just can't get it right. I love vintage processing, and I want to get a different look than I'm achieving now. How do you all get such amazing vintage looks? I see them EVERYWHERE!

All three kids in the same shot - check!
Everyone mostly in focus - check check!

I don't know what in the world the photographer the camera focused on here, but it certainly wasn't any of my children. I had to include it because I thought it would make you smile, and I think I'm really going to love this photo one day.

Don't forget to let me know which vintage actions you love. I'd love to hear! ♥

You just need to HUSH - these are great...and that one (next to last) might be my favorite. At least you've got focus...I can't always say that for myself. But seriously, these really are great!

These pictures are just adorable! It looks like you were back in the crazy Hay Market again!

I thought about you yesterday when we wandered around Pioneers Park taking family pictures! I was desperately looking for your road! We ended up at the sledding area!

Ahhh - I love these - especially the ones of all of them together :D So sweet!
And - you ROCK at portrait photography. You are too hard on yourself!

And - vintage actions, hmmm.... I only have the Pioneer Woman actions - I am still using PSE7. So, that is the only set of tricks I have up my sleeve. Boo. But, sometimes I combine a bunch of different ones to come up with my own look.

Aww, Karli -- you take REALLY BEAUTIFUL pictures! What are you talking about?! =)

I'm still working on getting vintage right myself... I'm playing with desaturation and adding hazes; haven't gotten the right 'formula' yet, though.

Your b&w conversions are beautiful! I love the second shot, the one of Livia sitting there on the trike looking right into your lens like, "what the heck mom, you think this is gonna slow me down?".

I love these! I think you're doing a great job as a portrait photographer. And it's HARD!! Especially with little ones who are always on the go. I just love that wall!

I use PW 70s action quite a lot, but I usually lower the opacity a bit. I also like the old west action, but it has an orton effect that you might not like. I got the TRA freebie trial, and the lux, ninja, and troy are all vintage looking actions. There's also Life.Camera.Actions - they have a vintage set, and some freebies to try. I'll try to find the links for you if you'd like.

hmmm...I don't have an opinion on vintage actions. Some look great, others not so much, but really I think it depends on the photo you put it one. Some photos scream vintage, some b/w etc. KWIM? Your photos are great. The kids are so cute, and yes, not matter what...you'll want those kid shots. Just imagine if you didn't have any, or lost them in a hard drive crash (like me) you will cherish these photos no matter how they look. Also imagine you kids are grown...you'll want to see those tiny hands again.

I don't use any actions at all, probably because I don't even know how. :/

Your baby girl is so darn cute! I love the b&w one, and the one with her "giving us the business" :D

Adorable shots.

I love them all for different rasons.. and I can not pick an action as a fav, mainly because I have action envy. SOmeday I am gonna sit down and learn that stuff.. Most of all I love the contrast of Ugg baby boots and flipflops...You really did a great job!

I love them all. Just because it is real life. That is what I like the most. I always strive for that when taking pictures. I have only done 3 family portraits shoots though. You know I love Pioneer Womans seventies action.

Have you tried this vintage one?

Seems like depending on the color of my original photo, certain vintage actions work better than others. I sometimes have to try a few to get the right one.

As for your pictures - they are great!

Don't be so hard on yourself! These are wonderful...of course, having such cute subjects helps!

These photos are wonderful and you're entirely too hard on yourself. You take amazing and beautiful portraits and you should be very proud of them.

I use Florabella Vintage Summer actions as well as the Spring Vintage actions from Spring Set I. I also use Paint the Moon's Tillie's Attic set, as well as her new Coffee House set. But, these are actions I've collected over a year - I wouldn't go out and buy them all at once. Recently, I've been processing everything with Paint the Moon's Coffee House action Blueberry Honey tea - so if you scroll down over the last few days, that's where those tones come from. Good luck - and these are wonderful - I don't know why you think portrait stuff isn't your thing.

This is so great, and what a perfect title! ..I don't use actions much (trying to more) but love the vintage look also...super cute bunch!

You know, I like the one of her sitting in the green doorway! :)

And the two last. Awww! :)

I don't use actions, but I really think it would depend on the colour in the original picture... at least that's what I've noticed if I run different film techniques on a picture.

I love the last one! I had two brothers growing up and would have loved a shot like that today. Good stuff - LOVE the apple pic in your header.

Cleverness as it's finest!!! Don't be so hard on yourself b/c seriously these are all GREAT GREAT photos. The second to last is my favorite!!! It sums up the moment perfectly. :D
Oh btw, I've enjoyed using Amy McMaster's vintage actions --- they were the first actions that I bought & I'm happy I did!
