Basically, I'm trying to make my picture below look like a miniature model; you know, with those brightly colored, tiny plastic people. It has to do with using areas of selective focus to trick the eye. What do you think?
I think it's pretty hysterical (bearing in mind...I've seen better examples; ones that look more toy-like). But this was the best I could get standing on the rooftop of a parking garage while my husband and kids drove around and around waiting for me - ha! :-) I think it might look more toy-like if these people weren't all running around; I have no idea what that was all about.
I know today is the unveiling of the October Photo Hunt, and one of the criteria is a tilt-shift photo. If you did one, would you please leave me your link in a comment? I would love to see other examples! :-)
OK, I'm offically being summoned to the crib, gotta run!

I love this! I've never really tried it, I should!
I've only tried this a few times. My favorite one I've done is here.

I like yours. You must be in NE? I see the big red "N". I grew up in SD!
that is awesome? totally looks like a miniature! i love that your husband humors you for this stuff. aren't they great? sam gives me a hard time every week about my "steppin' out" picture i insist on having him take, but he continues to do it. love those good guys :)
I had never heard of tilt-shift before this week and now I'm so into it. I love the tiny people! You did a great job with it. How is everyone wearing red? So neat!
I love all the red people!! Really helps with the illusion that they're toys. :D
This is awesome!! It definitely looks like a diorama to me! I think it looks even more toy-like because of all the people wearing red. Great job, and LOL about your family having to wait in the car for you. My husband has to do that all the time for me too, while I try to get "the perfect shot."
I think your tilt-shift shot looks a lot better than my tilt-shift shot. Like I told you last night, I think it looks awesome. And its even better because the people are running.
Oh my goodness... that is SO neat! I have never heard of this technique before. I love it! :)
I think you did a great job. Love it!
how did you do this?
Very cool! I'll have to look into this technique sometime.
WOW! That is so cool :D I had to look at it like 5 times. Well done!
Looks great Karli - the little minature people look so silly running about. I played with this for the October Photo Hunt - my favourite is this one : http://www.flickr.com/photos/clare_b_photos/5093968925/

I think them running is awesome - they're action figures! ;)
Super cool, this is GREAT!
I think it's great - love the people running around - I think it helps the effect.
I think the people running give it a neat depth and energy! You did GREAT! :D
Okay, here's my first go at tilt shift http://www.flickr.com/photos/cacupcake/5141721530/.
I'd never heard of tilt-shift until Ashley's scavenger hunt, but it turned out to be one of the most fun pictures to edit! Here's mine:

Yours came out really well! Hilarious that your husband and kids had to drive around while waiting for you to get your shot!! =)
Love the tilit-shift picture. I am seeing this for the first time and I got an idea of what it is after a bit of googling. Now can you tell, what lens/ converter you used to get this shot. Would love to hear. :) Thanks.
