5 on friday (eyes and ears and mouth and nose style)

(Yes, I'm a day early. Crazy weekend ahead).

It's a well known fact that I've perfected the walking away shot, especially when it comes to photographing the Tiny Tornado. I mean, my 4th grader could take most of the pictures I post on my blog. So... as a personal challenge I wanted to snap at least 5 pics of TT this week, face included.

1. Now let me just say, I thought Livia's fishy face below was totally cute, so I sought out my 9-year-old for some positive reinforcement.

Collin's reponse to the fishy face: "Hmmmmmm......... {VERY long pause}........ Well, it's medium, heading toward good. I think the problem is the lighting. You see how her white shirt is too bright? Yeah, it's the lighting."

(Blown out white shirt? OK, I'll give him that).

And he also didn't like the fact that one side of her face was lighter than the other. I tried to convince him that was because she was sitting next to a window, and that was called side-lighting. He was not convinced. Nor impressed.

2. Next. Here's sis being herself.

The feedback: "Well. It's better. Now see?... you still have that same problem with the shirt, but it's better. Actually now that I look at it, her hair looks kind of bad. You just need to fix the ponytails."

Note to self: From now on, only ask husband for feedback. He lies.

Some outtakes:

3. OK. This shot is a total gimme. Toddler restrained in car seat.....Veggie Tales DVD playing.....
Hey, it includes eyes, ears, mouth and nose so I'm counting it.

4. Moving right along. Here's a shot of TT playing with her Polly Pocket doll.

The look I got when I asked her to 'play in better light.'

The look I got when I asked her to smile.

5. And last but not least...... and I'll translate...... "you better pack up your fancy pants camera, cuz this is your LAST shot."

I totally overexposed that last shot in camera, but how could I not include it?? ;-) I wish you guys could know the force that is the Tiny Tornado. This child keeps me on my toes 24/7 and she's not even 2 1/2! Love her so much! ♥♥

I'm a day early, but everyone have a great weekend! XO

This whole post makes me happy. Her face is priceless...I wish I could photograph it. I can't actually tell that the last shot is overexposed at all....your black white conversion must have helped there. Man, she's a cutie.

love these and how much she has grown.. the last shot is my fav... and can I say.... there are some shots that still rock even with blown sections.. so journalistic and artsy at the same time...one of my fav shots of all times has a blwn out pair of hands... stellar!!!! technically corect does not always equate to art or memories captures...and the knowledge that son has..heheheh he and my M1 could open their own studio...but I am afraid of letting mine hold a camera with out supervision...

Love ya

You do a great job of capture her spirit in your pictures. And the shirt... totally not looking at it as her eyes draw you in. Beautiful girl you have there!

That last shot is my fav. Love the b/w. If it was overexposed I sure can't tell. You will treasure that shot in years to come.

That last shot is wonderful. I love it! It doesn't look overexposed to me though. There are no blown out areas so I think that it is great.

Really????? Really???? How do you keep doing this!?!?!?! I'm giggling and smiling and gasping (for breath)!!! Oh my!! haha! (that was bad, sorry! lol!)

Ok, so here's my thoughts. And they're many. Pull up an ottoman, grab a cup of hot chocolate (cause man it's chilly this morning!) and snuggle down with your iphone to read this! (ha, cause you SO know you are! lol!)

1. Yes, the fishy face is TOTALLY cute! And in my opinion, the fact that the white shirt is blown a bit doesn't matter... What matters is what's the subject: which is TT's face -- and that is NOT blown, so this is just fine! (Sorry, Collin!) And when you get to art class where they make you study all the classics (which I'm not sure how some of those people got labeled as "great artists to learn about centuries later when no one cares or has the prints anymore" but whatever...) you'll learn that side lighting is very important... hehe. (kudos for you for still giving your opinion honestly, though!!)

2. haha... just fix the ponytails... if only it were that easy! Love the sweet outtakes... and they can't be outtakes!!! :)

3. cheater. where's the challenge? (lol!)

4. Oh, WOW!!! Ok, so keep the messy ponytails cause that's just real life: here's the uber sweet "got my hair did" shot! Love her reactions to your requests... like REALLY?....... Did you really just say that? LOL Oh my word am I rolling! hehe!

5. Can I keep her????

Love her, love your 3 boys, love you!! Praying you have a blessed and wonderful weekend! (and if you're in mo I'm kicking your booty!)

xoxo

This was just awesome. Good to know that I am not alone.
You need to ignore the hubby feedback. White shirt is fine. The moments you caught trump any exposing issues.

Oh gosh Colin's critique totally cracked me up! Um I'd say that you have a photog in the making. Or a Photog judge - sheesh! I need to borrow him to give me the real deal input.

I think that they are all great shots. Brielle despises my cam and is still in a "no way are you taking my pic" phase. So congrats on Livia letting you do it in the first place. My fave shot is the middle out-take - I love that face she's putting on. She's looking more and more like you KB - GORGEOUS!!!!

Uggg Karli, I think I get a few decent shots of my kiddos and then I come over here and see your stu--unning pictures of TT. These are awesome, even when she's not cooperating. (Sometimes those are the most interesting.) You have such a knack for capturing eyes. Love it! Inspiring as always. :)
