thoughts for your weekend

I've seen the link to this article so many times the past month (and you probably have too)... but for those that haven't, I just wanted to share. If you find yourself struggling to balance social media with real life, specifically time with your children, the article How to Miss a Childhood is a must read.

I started my blog in 2010, and in the first year I posted over 450 times. I will never forget something a friend's husband said that absolutely changed my perspective. He said "don't waste your life documenting your life."

Powerful.

If you haven't read the article, I encourage you to do so. I hope you all have a wonderful weekend. :-)

Wow, that quote from your friend's husband is a fantastic one! I've kind of felt like that about the 365 project -- I've hit a low spot right now and haven't even picked up the camera for about a week now, but it actually feels so good to be living our life instead of documenting it the whole time! Thanks for sharing.

Powerful indeed!!!!

Love the photo. Taylor had one of those cars when he was about a year old. He burned his hands and spent a week in the burn unit at St. Louis Children's Hospital. They had one of these cars and he LOVED it!! My dad spent hours pushing him around the halls in that little car. The day we were released, Dad stopped and bought him one to have at his house.

Powerful! Bonnie, this article changed my perspective of what I was doing just last year...my 365. I loved it and love all the photos I captured along with the memories, but feel I am a bit wiser this year having done it. I read that same article a few months ago...about the time I posted on my blog that I would be with my family instead of blogging. I feel so much better knowing I am not giving my children the example that the computer is my life and where they see their mother most of the time. Now it is back to where it used to be before I became so wrapped up in keeping up on my blog that I forgot that there were many other things more important to be keeping up with, my kiddos. Thanks for posting this again and I pray it makes just as much of an impact on anothers life as it did on mine the first time I read it. Adorable photo as well!!!

Such a great article! I saw that on one of Stacey's posts not too long ago. And what your friend's husband said, wise words. Very wise words.
Thank you for this reminder, sweet friend. :) (I may have to post the article to FB...)

Love this image, and I love the article. It's so easy to get caught up in the wrong things. I feel like my life is so better balanced this year. thanks for sharing!

That article not only applies to kids -- but to those of us without kids and how we interact with our spouses, friends, extended family, pets, (hehe, as Storm has placed her toy at my foot a few times as I'm sitting here...).

And wow -- your friend's husband does have some very wise words!! I think there's a line in the sand between documenting life and over-documenting life. I'm glad you found that line. :) I think I've found that too.

love and hugs!

Good stuff. It's all so true. I'm so thankful that when my boys were 'little' that the internet wasn't that big of a deal and that smartphones weren't invented yet because I know I would've been sucked in to them. Now that they're older I have some more me-time that I can use to surf and waste time online. I really do make a huge effort to stay offline when the boys are home and not occupied (like with their electronics!) because I would hate it if they said that I was always on the computer. Sometimes they remind me that I'm on too much and I then realize I need to back off a bit. It's a balancing act just like the rest of life is!
