say hello to my little friend

My little friend, of course, being my new Canon 5D Mark II. If you live in Lincoln and hear squeals of glee in the distance, they are probably coming from my home. I AM SO EXCITED ABOUT MY NEW CAMERA!! My husband is amazing for making this happen! :-)

I quickly snapped this picture of Livia tonight. I had no idea what I was doing. My LCD screen wasn't even on. I didn't white balance my camera. But I captured this.

This was taken at 6:00pm with no lights on. See how much light the camera lets it?

Shutter speed: 1/125
Aperture: 2.8
White balance: Auto (I NEVER use auto!!!) I just didn't take the time to hunt around for it.
Now here's the amazing part. My ISO was 400!!!

With my Rebel XSI, a 400 ISO was borderline unusable. It was grainy, noisy...whichever term you like. The Mark II goes up to 6400, which of course you would (probably) never use. I think the 400 looks great!

I hardly did any post processing on this picture. I adjusted the color because my white balance wasn't set, and a gave it a slight curves adjustment. I didn't even use my usual haze-cutter action on Livia's eyes!

I can't wait to see how this camera performs at 100 ISO. The pictures will be even clearer. I'll definitely be trying that out tomorrow.

My aperture was also wide open (2.8), so if I stop down a little...I would get more sharpness around Livia's face. In our house (low light), I didn't always have that luxury with my Rebel. I had to use the widest aperture to let in the most light. Now I can experiment with a smaller aperture for more sharpness.

A HUGE thank you to Doron for such an awesome gift!
XOXOXOXOXOXOXOXO!!

PRETTY!!! He definitely gets bonus points for that purchase :) I can use ISO 800 regularly inside without noise and I think you'll find a new safe zone which you will LOVE! I accidentally shot an entire session once on ISO 6400 (I was renting the camera in a pinch and it was set on 6400 without me realizing it) and we were actually able to save the images (only printed them up to 8x10)...just good to know!

Can't wait to see what you can do!
