10 on tuesday

1. Welcome to my world.

Photobucket

Moms with older boys, you know what's going on here, right?

Don't judge me for my maroon curtains. Seven years ago when we moved into our new home, I had an affinity for maroon. Not long after my decorating frenzy, we had the "it's not you, it's me" talk. I am pleased to report, however, that the maroon accent wall and I parted ways two years ago.

2. I finally got my first pedicure in over 10 years. Because of my cheapness frugality (frugality?) I agonized over the decision for weeks. Turn out, I pretty much don't feel guilty about it at all.

3. Have you ever had one of these mornings?

Photobucket

My Kindergartner just waltzed by and informed me that black and white is not cool. For Drew:

4. I've decided that I'm going to teach myself to play the guitar.

5. Mother Nature was mocking me as I drove by this little mom & pop ice cream store that's closed for the winter. Well, guess what? I have the last laugh because I'm still wearing flip flops in 30 degree weather - so there!

Photobucket

6. The height gap is closing between my boys.

There were mixed reactions to the news.

And...

7. I was going to surprise you with the birthday gift I received from Doron. Turns out, it was the Terrible, Horrible, No-good, Very Bad Lens. (And I'm not being mean...I picked it out myself). I'd been wanting a macro lens forever, so Doron got me the Canon 100mm f/2.8. Turns out, if you have the steadiness of a 90 year old (me), you'd better opt for the L series lens with image stabilization. I tried the lens for two days and didn't get ONE picture in focus. No kidding. (I'm not knocking this lens, by the way. I've seen some gorgeous photos with it; that's what made me want it in the first place. I guess I just don't have the steadiness it takes to use it without a tripod). I'm now learning patience as I wait for the new lens to arrive.

Here are two pictures that I took with the lens (obviously they're not macro shots; all the macros I took were blurry). And these didn't make the Project 365 cut because I don't think they're impressively in focus. But somehow I just couldn't delete them.

8. If you have a weak stomach, skip to #10. (Dad).

9. This morning I come into the bathroom in time to hear my husband calling out "Show's over!" I see all three kids huddled around his sink...Collin has a horrified look on his face, and Drew & Livia are laughing hysterically. I'm just going to say "nose irrigation system" and leave it at that.

Edit: Doron said this is not how he wanted to make the list, but he is happy to be on the list nonetheless.

10. Have I mentioned that Livia has the fine motor skills of a racoon? She can untwist, untie, open, shred, unbutton, unzip, unravel, etc...with great precision. It's quite impressive.

You know what's fun about blogs?

Photobucket

You can spin your story any way you want.

Happy ending...

Photobucket

...or reality.

(Photographer's tip: taking your baby's candy away and waving it next to your lens might get your baby to look, but be prepared to deal with the consequences).

Let's go back to happy.

I love your posts so much!

HA! Love the boys faces!

Every shot is gorgeous even the ones you almost deleted. I'm thinking of getting the Lseries 100mm too. I tried it out and loved it!

Blessings and hugs for your day!

great post! Poor little thing. she looks so cute! And I totally understand the dart in the curtain, but I always just find ours scattered throughout the house!

Seriously LOVE this post!
1) I so get the dart. They are hidden in every nook and cranny in our house.
2)I'm still wearing my flip-flops, so there (pfft) winter!
3) My boys are getting so close in height too and have about the same reactions as your two boys too.
4) Thanks for the tip about not taking candy away from a little one to just get a picture...good advice, but it gets such great pictures that I think I might go against that advice. ;)

LOL at the nerf dart on the curtain. Seriously, you can walk into any room at any time and find a GI Joe hanging from somewhere: blinds, blankets, fans, refrigerator doors, flowers...

About the height issue: For YEARS my daughter was taller than my son (and she's nearly 3 years younger). She just most certainly hit her growth spurt first. Imagine a 13 year old boy and his 10 year old sister...one of them is barely 5'0" the other is 5'6" and think how well THAT went over! I seriously praised God the day Dylan finally met her height. They are both at 5'9" now and Dylan is praying daily for at least "one more inch God!" (And me...yeah, measly little 5'2")

I absolutely love 10 on Tuesday...so glad you do this each week! I'm loving that you're still wearing flip flops - which ones do you wear. I personally love Rainbows! You need them! I also think you were too hard on that lens...those shots you posted were amazing. You're just a photography snob...let's be honest (you know I'm kidding right) and I love that Drew has an opinion about black and white shots. That's just funny. Have an awesome day!

Great post! I'm eying a macro lens so thanks for the review. I'm also glad that I see your little girl eating chocolate. Nic loves it too. Heck I love chocolate, now I want a chocolate kiss!

Fun post! Love the peek into your world. So true about being able to spin a blog post anyway you want. lol

Regarding the macro lens photos that didn't make the cut. . . I would have been doing cartwheels if I'd taken those! They are lovely. I'm turning green with envy at the very thought of what you'll get with the L series lens.

Karli, missed your posts - will have to catch up when time permits, but love the red berries! I'd have to frame that one. Been there done that with the maroon curtains (and the dart thingys). Hope your Thanksgiving was great. p.s you should be ashamed taking that little girls candy away.

We definitely have #3 mornings... and afternoons too! I love the 10 on Tuesday - it's so fun to see all the little things that go on day-to-day. I was cracking up at "Show's over!" It's definitely something my hubby would be saying. I'm also glad to see that someone else's kid has the same dexterity as Georgia - I have to keep all our candy out of sight or she'll figure out a way to get to it, open it, and then eat it before I even notice what she's doing. But the pictures of Livia are WAY too cute!

This has to be one of my favorite blogs by you yet! I smiled, I sighed, I gagged (#9), I laughed. I get so much happiness from your blog. : )

"the steadiness of a 90 year old" Even WITH IS I still have issues. I think I'm going to Google "How to hold still for Photography" after I finish this comment.

PS Little Liv at the end with the candy? I can SO relate!

So fun. Love reading your blog. And I just read your "about me" section and I think we seriously could be sisters. Other than I shoot with a Nikon instead of a Canon! :-)

You had me at "nose irrigation". Seriously glad I didn't have a full bladder and yes, I know that's TMI, but you started it! (;

I just can not express to you how much I ♥LOVE♥ your posts and pictures Karli! They are AWESOME!
Did you end up getting any snow? The sun did come out here today, but it is so dang windy!
Have a wonderful evening with your beautiful children!

Great post! I love the boys' different reactions to the closing height gap. And the kiss pics are so great, too. All of your shots are just amazing!!

LOL! You crack me up! Best of luck with #4 - I tried when I was 16 and totally stunk and gave up. But I'm sure you'll rock it! Flip flops...I just hope you don't wear them in the snow. Brrr! And those 2 'new lens' shots are awesome. Overachiever. ;)

You are such a HOOT!

Your very worst photos are still works of art, Karli! I always love dropping here -not only to drool over your photos, but I also really enjoy your quirky sense of humor. =)

Hi Karli,

It's been a while since I've been to your blog, but I now have highspeed internet so I can view your blog and all the wonderful pictures without having my computer act up on me.

I really enjoyed this post. I have two brothers so I had a little laugh from the pictures of your boys (and their mischief with your curtains); boys will be boys, right? :) As for Livia, those pictures are priceless! Kids will learn how to "help themselves" to things that they want. I see she's a chocolate lover... so am I! :)

Blessings,
Miss S.

I look like that EVERY morning (not so cute tho)
Flip Flops Year Round !!!!!!YES!
Collin & Drew's take on the shrinking height distance: priceless!
I honestly thought that one shot was Livia holding an 'L' up to her forehead ala` Glee.
I skipped #9 - THANK YOU !!!
"Fine motor skills of a racoon" <-- I <3 you !!!

I laughed the whole time I read this - Jeff had to come and see what I was laughing about. ;)

1. Yup. We've got those, too. Not the curtains, the dart. ;)
3. AWWWWW!!! That face kills me. XD
6. We haven't had that problem... yet. ;) Drew's face is hilarious!
7. LOVE the first one!!
9. Laugh, and laugh, and laugh!!! XD I'd snort, but you know what would happen with all that water.... ;)
10. Livia is SO CUTE!

So glad you splurged for a pedicure! I go to the sweat shop (C&T) by Shogun. Their deluxe pedis are the best in town and sooooo cheap too!

We are sad that the Dairy Sweet is closed for the winter. It's a hop, skip and a jump away from our house so we live there during the summer!

Darling chocolate pictures!

I love these 10 on Tuesday posts! Might have to start doing them myself. :-D I know I said this before, but your little girl is soooo cute! Wish I could take her away to live with us. hehe. Also love the second close up--the colors and water drops are exquisite!

I have the 100mm L on my wish list. Someday, someday...

And yes, I too am wearing flip flops out to the barn. In half a foot of snow and temps in the teens. Winter? What winter? LOL!

Oh my gosh! Such a great post.

One I love the pictures of your boys! Especially the height one.
Two, those two pictures you posted with your new lens are gorgeous. Can't wait to see what you do with your new lens. I am patiently waiting for my new camera. NOT!
Three, not only is Livia smart, she is the cutest little girl I know.

Great pictures as always. So glad I found your blog. :D

Flip flops are tucked away and have been for a month or 2. brr. I like toasty toes. That mom & pop stand is my favorite shot. You should print one up for them; I bet they'd love it!

When my 2 girls closed in on each other, it wasn't long before the younger one was referred to (by strangers) as my "oldest." That didn't sit too well with dd#1! Looks like you'll be dealing with those joys soon. ;)
