salt dough tombs

Easter weekend is almost here, and that means a favorite family tradition.... salt dough tombs! My kids do these every year, and they're just as excited this year as the first year we did them.

I blogged about this last year, so instead of reinventing the wheel, I'll just link you to the 2 posts with the instructions.

Part 1 is making the salt dough tombs (seriously so easy, there's only 4 ingredients!)

and Part 2 is painting the tombs and making a Jesus figure and 2 guards out of pipe cleaners.

I'm no crafter, so trust me when I tell you how easy these are. Be sure to click on Part 2 and look at the last three photos. This will give you an idea of the finished product.

We haven't baked our tombs yet this year, but we did make the Jesus's and guards last night. A few snapshots of the evening...

(Notice what Livia is holding in her right hand below? Jesus was firmly grasped for the rest of the evening and made several appearances on the swings and slide). ;-)

We have added SOMETHING NEW to our yearly tradition that I think my kids will love! After Jesus rises from the tomb on Easter Sunday, we are going to keep him for 40 days (the number of days Jesus was on earth before ascending into Heaven). On the 40th day, we will attach our Jesus's to balloons for a heavenly send-off!!! :-)

I hope you all have a wonderful Easter! xo

I remember your post from last year, and we plan to do this for Easter this year! [I'm very excited!!] I love the idea of keeping Jesus for 40 days and then sending Him to Heaven on a balloon. Do you mind if I borrow that idea, too?

I adore the picture of Liv clutching Jesus! She is wonderful!!

I loved doing this with Little Miss last year (thanks to your idea!) I think I'm lazy because we are re-using last year's! You're so good to do this every year.

Wishing you and your beautiful family a richly blessed Resurrection weekend! Much love sweet friend!

I will be making pipe cleaner Jesus with the kids today. How cute!!! They will love Him!

Karli!!! What's up! I saw your sweet little comment on my blog. Thank you! You asked about the Shooting from the Shadows book. I checked and my book has 26 pages, too. So....I guess either we are good or we both got cheated. LOL I'm sure it was a mistake on the description, maybe.

I have to say...look at TT's hair! So long and lovely! And that dress. Must.Have.That.Dress.

Okay, I have to write you back to Thank You for your sweet comment. But to say seriously you are amazing, I love your photos. Always so crisp, clear, and beautiful!!

Also, I have a question- how do you do all of the pic collages? I've been trying to figure out a way to showcase photos differently. Are they actions or do you make them? Thanks!

and what a great idea about Jesus rising in 40 days (well, a bit less than 40 days, now, huh? hope you got it on your calendar!)

Love how Jesus got to be a part of TT's evening! :)
